Developer Todd Edwards and Project Designer Lori Edwards of Stonehenge Real Estate Investments Co. in Houston envision Bayside at Waterman’s to be like the neighborhoods where they grew up. Bayside at Waterman’s is a neighborhood where children will ride their bicycles to the community pool, neighbors will chat over the picket fence and father and son will cast fishing lines on the boardwalk.
The developers bought the property in 2008. The 21-acre tract is located between Galveston Island State Park to the north and west and Lake Como to the east. Its colorful and storied past includes Karanakwa Indians who settled there in the 16th century and rumors of treasure buried by the pirate Jean Lafitte in the early 1800s.
The heart of Bayside at Waterman’s is the historical 1926 Stewart Mansion. The Spanish-style stucco home was built for prominent Galveston resident George Sealy, Jr. and his wife, Eugenia Taylor. Located in what was then a rural area of the island, the property was owned by Maco Stewart, founder of Stewart Title Company from 1933 until 1944.
Vacant for years and falling into disrepair, the mansion was put on the Galveston Historical Foundation Heritage at Risk list. Now the mansion is being revitalized to become the Bayside at Waterman’s community center featuring a swimming pool, a lazy river and ballrooms for your special events.
Leave your car keys on the counter and your stress behind. Bayside at Waterman’s is a tranquil, walkable community of coastal cottages that encourage front-porch relaxation. Golf, swimming, boating, bicycling, fishing, casual dining and stunning sunsets are yours to enjoy. Make island life easier with our premium personal concierge services, including grocery deliveries, maid service, lawn care, catering and special event planning.
Bayside at Watermans’s is your haven on Earth. Walking and bike paths connect the community and to the neighboring Galveston Island State Park. The 2,000-acre, beach-to-bay oasis offers bird watching, nature study, hiking, mountain biking and more. Park improvements totaling $22 million are planned to further enhance the visitor experience. Enjoy a game of golf or tennis at Galveston Country Club, a short walk or golf cart ride from Bayside at Waterman’s.
Relax by the resort-style pool, float the lazy river or fish from the community’s boardwalk or fishing pier. Store your boat at the community’s covered 127-slip marina, which offers concierge services, including fuel, bait and cold drinks. Kayakers and canoeists can launch from the marina on Lake Como or the state park to explore the tranquility of Galveston Bay. It’s especially spectacular at sunset. You will always find your way with the lighthouse at Bayside guiding you home.
Waterman’s Restaurant is the West End’s landmark restaurant. The casual-dining restaurant overlooking Lake Como is known for its steak and seafood specialties. It’s perfect for a romantic sunset dinner, appetizers at the bar, a happy hour get-together with friends, or a casual dock-and-dine lunch. Delivery is a phone call away for Bayside at Waterman’s residents.
